§ 11.5-32. Large mobile homes.

  • The following regulations shall govern movement of ten (10) foot to twelve (12) foot wide mobile homes:

    (a)

    Special permits may be issued governing the movement of trailers of this size on a trip basis valid for one trip only; and limited to five (5) days travel time, excluding any movement on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    (b)

    Movement may be routed over all highways having pavement width of twenty-four (24) feet or wider and up to twenty-five (25) miles in the aggregate on highways less than twenty-four (24) feet wide.

    (c)

    The requested route must be furnished by the applicant and is subject to approval by the county engineer.

    (d)

    Front of the tow-tractor and rear of the mobile home shall have "WIDE LOAD" signs affixed. Sign lettering must be black on either white or yellow background. Such signs shall be displayed only when towing an overwidth mobile home.

    (e)

    Speed and flags must conform to state law.

    (f)

    A tow truck of a minimum one ton rating shall be required to tow units of this size.

    (g)

    Any combination length in excess of seventy-five (75) feet overall will require the use of a company escort vehicle as a safety precaution.

    Note: Permits covering movement of trailers of this size must provide information to identify the trailer by manufacturers' make and serial number.
