§ 5-306. Classes of certificates of competency.

  • (a)

    Upon ascertaining that the contractor applicant has satisfied the requirements set forth in this article, the board shall issue one of the following classes of certificates of competency, depending on the applicant's qualifications as determined by the board:

    (1)

    Building contractor:

    a.

    General contractor competency, class A.

    b.

    Building contractor competency, class B.

    c.

    Residential contractor competency, class C.

    (2)

    H.A.R.V. contractor:

    a.

    H.A.R.V. class A contractor.

    b.

    H.A.R.V. class B contractor.

    c.

    Mechanical contractor.

    d.

    Sheet metal contractor.

    (3)

    Irrigation contractor.

    (4)

    Plumbing contractor.

    (5)

    Gas contractor.

    (6)

    Electrical contractor.

    (7)

    Swimming pool/spa contractor.

    (8)

    Swimming pool/spa service contractor.

    (9)

    Roofing contractor.

    (10)

    Solar water heating contractor.

    (11)

    Underground utility contractor.

    (12)

    Aluminum specialty structures contractor.

    (13)

    Demolition contractor.

    (14)

    Marine contractor.

    (15)

    Garage door installer contractor.

    (16)

    Limited energy system specialty contractor (low voltage).

    (17)

    Siding, window and door contractor.

    (b)

    Upon ascertaining that the applicant for certification as journeyman has by the requirements set forth in this article, the board shall issue one of the following classes of certificates of competency depending on the applicant's qualifications as determined by the board:

    (1)

    Journeyman electrician.

    (2)

    Journeyman plumber.

    (c)

    A certificate of competency is not transferable to any person or firm except in accordance with the terms of this article.

    (d)

    A certificate of competency shall be renewable from year to year upon payment of a renewal fee and without further examination unless the contractor wishes to advance to a higher or unrelated classification. The board may refuse to renew a certificate of competency of any person if said person has violated any of the terms and provisions of this article. At each renewal period, any person or firm holding a certificate of competency as a contractor shall furnish to the board a certificate of insurance, including public liability property damage and workers' compensation; a current state registration; a surety bond; current occupational license; and such other information as the board may require from time to time.
