§ 5.5-15. Meritorious gain time.

  • (a)

    Eligibility. An inmate who performs an outstanding service meriting an additional deduction from the term of his sentence may be granted meritorious gain time not to exceed five (5) days per month.

    (b)

    Credits applied. The gain time committee may recommend a meritorious gain time award during the progress review for an inmate who has:

    (1)

    Performed an outstanding deed such as saving a life or aiding in capturing an escapee;

    (2)

    Provided information that assisted the department in preventing the introduction of contraband or preventing other violations of laws or rules; or

    (3)

    At one time performed outstanding service to the department meriting special reward.

    Any recommendation for meritorious gain time, including a written explanation of the deed or service performed and the recommended amount of gain time to be credited, is to be submitted by the director to the department commander. The department commander may approve the award in whole or in part. The approval award shall be credited by the classification unit and written evidence of the award shall be placed in the inmate's file.
