§ 2-71. Created; membership; terms; compensation.

  • There is hereby created a commission to be known as the "Polk County Historical Commission." Said commission shall consist of eleven (11) members, consisting of: Member number one, a member of the board of county commissioners; member number two, a county judge; member number three, the clerk of the circuit court; and members numbered four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, and eleven, who shall be registered voters of the county and who shall be appointed by the governor, and whose terms of office shall be for four (4) years, and until their successors are appointed and qualified; but members number five, seven, nine, and eleven shall be appointed and serve for only two (2) years and members numbered four, six, eight, and ten shall be appointed and serve for four (4) years. Thereafter, the terms of all such members numbered four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, and eleven shall be for four (4) years except in case of appointment to fill a vacancy, in which case the appointment shall be for the unexpired term. In selecting citizens to serve as members of the historical commission, the governor shall consider the interest of such citizens in the history and cultural lore and development of the county and state. No member of the commission shall receive any compensation for his services.
