§ 11.5-20. Permit provisions generally.

  • The following regulations shall apply to permits issued pursuant hereto and vehicles using them:

    (1)

    Gross loads—52,500 pounds maximum:

    (a)

    Axles: Three (3) axles required.

    (b)

    Time Limit: Blanket permits permissible.

    (2)

    Gross loads—52,500 pounds to 76,000 pounds maximum:

    (a)

    Axles: Four (4) axles required.

    (b)

    Time Limit: Blanket permits permissible.

    (3)

    Gross loads—76,000 pounds to 100,000 pounds maximum:

    (a)

    Axles: Five (5) axles minimum required.

    (b)

    Time Limit: Blanket permits permissible.

    No blanket permits may be issued for loads greater than 100,000 pounds.

    (4)

    Gross loads—100,000 pounds to 125,000 pounds maximum:

    (a)

    Axles: Six (6) axles required.

    (b)

    Time Limit: Trip only.

    (c)

    Routing: Careful study and assignment by the county engineer.

    (5)

    Gross loads—125,000 pounds to 150,000 pounds maximum:

    (a)

    Axles: Six (6) axles required and strip equipment.

    (b)

    Time Limit: Trip only.

    (c)

    Routing: Careful study and assignment by the county engineer.

    (6)

    Gross loads—150,000 pounds maximum:

    (a)

    Whenever possible such heavy loads shall be shipped by rail or water.

    (b)

    Where it is not practical to ship by rail or water, careful consideration may be given to movements which seem necessary.

    (c)

    Time Limit: Trip only.

    (d)

    Routing: Careful study and assignment by the county engineer.

    Careful study and consideration may be given to local movements, such moves to be within a twenty-five (25) mile radius of the city limits of the hauler's headquarters and not to exceed a distance of a thirty-mile haul.

    (8)

    Eight tires per axle: On equipment trailers having eight (8) tires per axle instead of the usual four (4), further consideration may be given for additional loads allowable on this axle, not to exceed twelve thousand five hundred (12,500) pounds per axle.

    (9)

    Where the necessity for a haul movement demands the use of an equipment trailer over eight (8) feet in width and not more than eleven (11) feet and with an overall combination length of tractor and trailer not to exceed fifty-five (55) feet, a blanket or trip basis permit may be issued according to the following:

    (a)

    Blanket permits:

    1.

    Permits of this type may be issued to cover a period not to exceed twelve (12) months. The permits shall show the hauler's headquarters, specify the type of equipment to be hauled and authorize movement of empty vehicle in daylight hours only.

    2.

    On the round trip the hauler may be permitted to travel empty during portions of the route or in lieu of traveling empty may haul a load of lesser weight and dimension than is covered in the permit for the prime load.

    3.

    The hauler shall furnish his truck operator with a letter outlining the prime move and the type of equipment.

    (b)

    Trip basis permits: Other individual movements pertaining to the use of these overwidth trailers which are not eligible for blanket permits, may be given consideration on a trip basis depending upon justification.
